Welcome to Porpoise Spit!

Welcome to Porpoise Spit!
Whilst travelling with Celi through India many years ago we pretended we lived in Porpoise Spit. Our fake address in hotel sign in books was always 22 Kangaroo court, Porpoise Spit and whenever the locals asked where we were from we always answered Porpoise Spit. For Celi it was partly true but now for the past two weeks I have actually lived there. Nick helped Tracy, owner of Goosebumps clothing, get her new website up and running. Check out the job he did HERE. He did get some help with the boring data entry from yours truly and Trace, freeing him up to do the more mentally challenging work.
We stayed in Banora point and were treated to amazing meals and hospitality. Trace claimed she could not cook but we found out the truth!
Another yummy lunch! Yes Nick another photo!
The view from Steve and Trace’s verandah. Hard to handle really!
Our favourite couch at any time of the day or night.
Best of all was we got to hang out with these gorgeous girls below. Possibly the cutest three and five year old girls I have ever met!
Bella and Angelique modelling their mum’s products!
‘I feel that life is full of choices. I’m not religious but I do believe that things happen for reasons unbeknown to us… I’m still trying to figure out most of those reasons. At 15 I had 2 choices; I could throw my life away and be an ass-hole or I could try and make something of myself, regardless of the situation I was in.’

Curtis Palmer

One of the highlights of our time here was a chance to hear Curtis Palmer speak at the The South Tweed Sports Centre. Curtis broke his neck playing ruby league when he was 15 and is ‘on’ a wheel chair. He has won a gold medel representing New Zealand at the Paralympics in wheel chair rugby and has recently switched to the Australian team in the hope to make it to Brazil in 2016. Curtis was an inspiration, a man with such a positive attitude to life who actually counted himself lucky to have been paralysed at 15 when he had no responsibilitites and his family to support him rather than later in life.

‘ When I lived in Porpoise Spit, I’d just stay in my room for hours and listen to ABBA songs. Sometimes I’d stay in there all day.’

Muriel, “Muriel Wedding”

My casual work has been interesting.

I stood in between two boys to break up a fight with one yelling at the other, “Stay out of my business you f…ing c!” Two little girls in year one hid and do not return to the classroom after a break and little boy decided to give a girl a hair cut during a maths activity…..all this on my first day and all before lunch time! At one point after lunch five children were missing from my classroom. Welcome to Porposie Spit! I wish I would have stayed in my room and listened to ABBA songs!!!
Our middle weekend was spent exploring. We started the day at ‘Raw’ in Queensland where it was a chilly. Thankfully they supplied granny blankets to keep us warm.
The morning improved and we went for a beautiful walk on the beach.
The shell collector! This one is for you Lynne!
We drove to Murwillumbah (which I can now finally pronounce!) for lunch.
This cartoon featuring Black Cavier caught our eye in a shop window.
Nick and Trace attended a small business boot camp on our second weekend and I enjoyed my time by crossing back into the ‘Sunshine state’ and going on a walk to Kirra beach.
This cartoon caught my eye in the Sunday paper whilst enjoying my coffee at Raw.

We loved our two weeks in Porpoise Spit. A big thank you to Trace, Steve, Angelique and Bella for welcoming us so warmly into their home. Thanks for the laughs and the yummy food!
