Sensational Shropshire

We spent five nights In England with my 'little sister' Kate, who I worked with in Chile. Kate's parents were away and very kindly let us stay in their cottage outside of Ludlow. The weather was amazing and the company exceptional.

Each day usually involved doing something active and lunch somewhere beautiful. We visited Carding Mill valley and enjoyed a hike.

Unfortunately it wasn't so flat!

Our nice flat walking path! We walked down one side of the river and crossed a bridge.

We had to catch the hand pulled ferry back to where we started.

We rewarded ourselves with a pub lunch and a beer.

The next day we decided to leave the car at home and walk into Ludlow. Google maps told us it would take an hour and a half but wanted to send us along main roads. We opted for the public footpaths instead and it took us about two and a half hours. It was so much nicer than Google's suggestion. Who says Google is never wrong!

When a man is tired of London he is tired of life!

“……..when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life…….”

Samuel Johnson

We have spent the last two weeks in London looking after two gorgeous but cheeky black cats in Pinner. We had a wonderful time catching up with friends, relaxing and visiting a few of the tourist attractions on offer.

‘Eating is a Multisensory Experience!

'Eating is a Multisensory Experience'

Heston Blumenthal

We were spoilt by Nick's generous family and sent out of London for the day to 'The Fat Duck,' Heston Blumenthal's restaurant. It was a 14 course tasting menu spread over three and a half hours and turned out to be the most amazing eating experience of our lives so far!

Dehydrated beet root with horseradish
An added extra! As if 14 courses was not going to be enough.

NITRO POACHED APERITIFS

Vodka and Lime Sour, Gin and Tonic, Campari Soda

You had to select one of three. We both had vodka and lime sour.

RED CABBAGE GAZPACHO

Pommery Grain Mustard Ice Cream

JELLY OF QUAIL, CRAYFISH CREAM

Chicken Liver Parfait, Oak Moss and Truffle Toast

“I really believe that there's beginning to be a whole new approach to the world of food, touching on the multi-sensory pleasure you can get from eating and cooking. All the parts are ready to come together and it's really exciting………….To start with, we under-use our sense of taste and miss a shedload of pleasure.”

'The March hair took the watch and looked at it gloomily; then he dipped it into his cup of tea…….'
A toast….To the Condon family! Thank you!

“SOUND OF THE SEA”

“Of course I want to create food that is delicious, but this depends on so much more than simply what's going on in the mouth-context, history, nostalgia, emotion, memory and the interplay of sight, smell, sound and taste all play an important part in our appreciation and enjoyment of food.”

Mouthwatering meals and massive markets

On our last Friday night in Buenos Aires we tried a new closed door restaurant called NOLAbuenosaires run by Liza from New Orleans out of a stylish house in Palermo. The menu consisted of four courses with matching wines and we were seated at a communal table of eight with three Americans and three locals. The food, wine and conversations were great and we would recommend that anyone visiting Buenos Aires pays Liza a visit.

NOLAbuenosaires is opened on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Liza also does pop up events at local restaurants. (Details of which can be found on her blog)

On Sunday we visited the market in San Telmo, wandering the streets and taking in the many sights and sounds. I am glad we allowed the whole day to do this as the market stretched over many, many blocks!

We stayed at Patios de San Telmo after finding an great deal on booking.com. The hotel was amazing and we would recommend it if you want to stay nearer to the centre.
