A unexpected reunion in Rurre

Dirk and FC, two South African boys who were volunteering with us in Jupapina left a week earlier for Rurre to find a boat to take them to Peru. We thought they would be long gone but we bumped into them having breakfast in Rurrenabaque.

There were no boats going to Peru so they bought their own! Far right! We haven't heard an update on their progress yet but they should be in Peru by now!

We loved Rurre immediately and felt like we had landed in a different country.

The temperatures were high and the pace of life was extremely relaxed!

We stayed at the Hotel Oriental. Ask for room 10 if you ever happen to find yourself there.

Our Modern Stealth Aircraft

We flew from La Paz to Rurrenabaque with Lìnea Aérea Amaszonas. A brochure they gave us at check in mentioned their 'modern fleet of aircraft…………..'

So modern, it was just off the production line and yet to get any signage on the side!

We were one of the first people on the plane and it was funny watching the faces of people as they entered when they realised they couldn't stand up straight.

Check out the modern after-market GPS… I wonder if they have a cigarette lighter socket to charge it!

Thankfully we didn't get high enough to need oxygen masks as there were no crew members to hand them out. We figured the pilots must just have to turn around and throw them at you in an emergency!

Happy to be on the ground!

Not a lot of leg room!

In all seriousness, we found the flights to be safe, on time and reasonably priced. We would definitely recommend this airline to others.

On the road again!

“On the road again

Goin' places that I've never been.

Seein' things that I may never see again…..”

Willie Nelson lyrics

We spent our first weekend back on the road in a little place called Sorata, which is about 3 hours drive from the centre of La Paz. It was quite a beautiful spot, if not a little run down.

On the way there, we thought we had the local bus to ourselves but then we made another stop to pick up more passengers:

Sorata's plaza had a really beautiful backdrop!

The market in Sorata….

Finding accommodation was a bit tough. We didn't book anything and a couple of places were booked out. Enter the trusty Lonely Planet:

“…ask to stay in one of the new ones…”

– Lonely Planet Bolivia

Let's check out those “new ones”:

So new, the bathroom had no tiles!

We began to wonder how new the paint on the ceiling was… Check out the built in air conditioning under the door. The pillows were also as hard as rocks and we both woke up with neck aches. I guess you can't expect too much for $20 a night!

Its saving grace was the breakfast – excellent value.

Our second and third nights we decided to lash out a bit and stay at Altai Oasis
