Chocolates, roses, cakes and tourist!

San Martin de Los Andes is Switzerland meets Argentina. It is a wonderful mix of gorgeous and down right tacky! Anyone with a sweet tooth would be in heaven here! Some cakes look like they could single handedly bring on a heart attack! Needless to say we haven’t sampled any yet! There are roses everywhere, someone has obviously gone to a lot of effort when planting them. It is a popular tourist destination for Argentines in the summer and skiing is popular from here in winter. We are enjoying being in a smaller place where everything is with walking distance.  We are becoming a little more Argentine every day, having lunch about two, dinner around nine thirty and sleeping in.

…….we sat for forty minutes in a restaurant last night not knowing if I had ordered dessert or not.  This may sound strange but the waitress asked if we’d like postre. In spanish I replied, “No but why not!” Forty minutes later we still hadn’t received any postre or even been offered a menu to look at.  It turns out I hadn’t ordered postre and she thought we wanted to take our time.

……..on our first night in Buenos Aires I ordered a lasagna napoletana for Nick,  or atleast I thought I had. The waiter arrived with a beef schnitzel topped with cheese and tomato.  When I questioned him he said I ordered a Lomo malenese!  Doh!

When the sun rose, the bus slowed down.  We had a chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Yo quiero mas vino tinto por favor!

Thankfully not our bus!

Nick’s spanish is improving and he has now added,”I want more red wine please!” to his repertoire. We spent twenty-two hours on a bus, travelling 1568.1 km from Buenos Aires to San Marin de Los Andes, close to the Chilean border. Whilst this could have been sheer hell we both agreed it was the best bus journey ever! We travelled on Via Bariloche
in Tutto Letto, although it wasn’t as flash as the picture suggested on their website. There were blankets and pillows and our seats reclined 180 degrees. Food and wine were served along the way. Two movies were screened in English with Spanish subtitles. We were even offered champagne or whiskey as a night cap!

Number 2 wasn’t as painful as it looks!

Our first snacks was ham and cheese crossiants.

Dinner was ham, salad and bread with some sort of hot chicken and potato dish. It was delicious!

Breakfast was bread, cream cheese, jam,a ‘bimbo muesli’ bar and coffee.
